Safari fails to connect with websites after one connection

After starting Safari I pulled up google news to read. First article loaded correctly but any attempts to download any others eventually sent a blued website address on the screen but unable to connect. All usual bookmarks would then not connect.

So far have tried the usual: hard restart, turning router on and off, clearing history. Force quitting all apps. Notably, after hard restart Safari works normally for one website but the will not connect thereafter.

Doesn’t appear to be a network problem as WiFi working for phone and laptop.

Browser Safari 12.1

Hardware: New 2019 iMac

macOS 10.14.4

First I tried reinstalling iOS - didn’t work. Then I reinstalled a copy of Time Machine from a few days ago - success! After I had been messing with this I had run across an extension called “TaskFresh 1.0” that appears to be some sort of ad virus. I removed it but it may have infected my system. Regardless, Time Machine saved me.

Try setting up another admin user account to see if the same problem continues. Please post back on whether or not this worked. Also try the Safe Mode. Please post back on whether or not this worked.

Deselect Proxies, if selected.

System Preference > Network > Advanced  > Proxies Tab

Unlock the lock if you have to.

Under "Select Protocol”, uncheck any box if check marked.

    Click "OK" then  "Apply”.

Safari can’t open a website that uses a protocol other than http or https.
