Can't make online payments on Safari

Hey Guys

I used to use Chrome, as I was used to it from my old Windows days, but, after 3 years of being a MacBook owner, I switched to Safari just before Xmas and am really pleased I did as now I've got used to it I much prefer it.

However, there is one thing that is *really* winding me up and that is, every time I try to place an online order and it takes me to the "Payment Authentication" page, it just freezes and nothing else happens. I have to either refresh or go back to try again and then the same thing happens. If I switch to Chrome the payment goes through first time.

This was what happened on the John Lewis site this morning but it's a similar thing whatever company I'm trying to buy from!! This screen comes up and then nothing happens. A couple of times I've even had my bank call me because they've noticed "unusual activity" or "someone trying to make unauthorised purchases" which is a tad embarrassing when I tell them it's actually me, lol!!!

I'm sure I must have ticked or unticked something I shouldn't have in setup, but can't for the life of me think what.

Any ideas? Thank you!!!

  1. Make sure Pop-Up windows are not blocked.

Customize settings for each website in Safari on Mac - Apple Support

2 Make sure Cookies are not blocked.

Safari > Preferences > Privacy > Cookies and website data:

Some websites may require user to allow Website tracking.

If there is such a requirement, uncheck the box beside "Prevent cross-site tracking" temporarily.

Note: This is an important privacy/security feature.

If the above doesn't work, try setting up another admin user account to see if the same problem continues. Please post back on whether or not this worked. Also try the Safe Mode. Please post back on whether or not this worked.

If it works in the Safe Mode, try running this program when booted normally and then copy and paste the output in a reply. The program was created by Etresoft, a frequent contributor.  Please use copy and paste as screen shots can be hard to read. Click “Share Report” button in the toolbar, select “Copy to Clipboard” and then paste into a reply. This will show what is running on your computer. No personal information is shown.
