Two apple IDs for two iPhones

I'm planning a trip abroad but my cellular service provider doesn't have what I consider an affordable plan to use my iPhone SE to make local and international calls along with text and data. I plan on using an older unlocked iPhone 5S and buy a sim card and a one month plan. I will be leaving my SE home. I wiped the 5S and want to set it up separate from my current apple ID account. I figure that is the best way to make sure I don't end up getting hit with any unexpected charges or problems with two factor verification. Is this the way to go? Also in setting up a new account, if I use my same name and other info will it in anyway affect my current account? Thanks in advance.
