Empty "For you", "Browse" tabs in iTunes, Apple Music not working

Suddenly "For you", "Browse", "Radio" tabs in iTunes are not showing anything, blank screen, search is not working, but "Library" and "Store" are working fine. Apple Music features are not working at all.

Logged out/in, cleaned cache, prefs, restarted, turned on/off Apple Music in prefs, reinstalled iTunes — nothing helps.

Everything works fine on my iPhone and iPad.

MacBookPro early 2011, El Capitan 10.11.6

Clean install 1 month ago.

Re-installing OS is not a great option, this is a main working laptop, outage is not possible, and a lot of apps, plugins and preferencies to reinstall.

Unfortunately, I'm on a live production machine that is still locked to El Capitan (10.11.6). This issue just came up in the last 1-2 weeks. But, upgrading is not an option as it affects the operation of business software.

What I was able to do was roll all the way back to iTunes 12.4.3.1. There are a few issues to be mindful of:

  • iTunes is part of the OS, so you can't just delete/uninstall it via the gui.
    • in terminal issue: cd /Applications/
    • then: sudo rm -rf iTunes.app/
    • enter your admin password. This will delete iTunes from your /Applications folder
  • Download itunes 12.4.3 from here (I tried 12.6.2 and it did not work, YMMV)
  • After installing, the old version of iTunes will likely complain about the library file belonging to a newer version of iTunes. I was able to go in to my 'previous versions' and found a file from 2016 that worked.
    • My advice would be to back up this file to a new directory, as if you simply choose the file in the 'previous versions' folder, iTunes will litter that folder with all the necessary files it needs to create to form a music library.

But, after a little icon spinning all of my icloud playlists are back, and I can search for subscribed content again rather than only the paid content.

Thanks apple /s

I had this problem as well. After trying all the standard things (reboot, sign out and back in to the Apple Store, etc) I was finally able to get iTunes Radio back by downgrading iTunes. There are several pages of instruction out there: basically, delete existing iTunes then install an older version from the download page ( https://support.apple.com/downloads/itunes ). After downgrading from 12.8.2 to 12.4.3, I have my BBC radio back.
