Toshiba external hard drive won't mount, is not visible in Finder / Disk Utility

My Toshiba 1TB external hard drive has all of sudden stopped working, won’t mount on my Mac anymore, always used to.

I’ve switched out the USB C adapter (where I run the USB connector to the external drive to) for a brand new one. That didn’t fix it either.

The blue light on the disk comes on, stays solid and then typically goes out.

Have also witnessed a solid white light (not often).

Can’t be seen in either Finder window or Disk Utility.

Have also tried it on an older MacBook & a PC, no joy there either.

This external drive was formatted for Mac. Is from 2018.

MacBook Pro (2016) is running Mojave 10.14.4

More information needed?

If not, any suggestions?

MacBook Pro 15", macOS 10.14

The vast majority of the time it's the USB cable that has gone bad. That's the first thing you would want to try and replace. You'd also want to verify it on another computer, though if the drive is Mac-specific formatted you'd want to try it ONLY another Mac (such as a Mac at an Apple store if you don't have access to another one through friends/family/school/work (not a Windows PC).

If it's not the cable/computer/ports then it's most likely the external enclosure itself. If the drive is out of warranty (or if the primary concern is your data already on there) you can transfer the drive within the enclosure itself to a new generic SATA external enclosure. Those cost about $20.
