Can’t hear caller CarPlay

When I receive a call through CarPlay I can see the caller ID and I answer the call. I cannot hear the caller but they can hear me.

I end the call and then immediately return the call. Now I can hear the other party and they can hear me.

Car is a jaguar e pace. Phone is 8+ with iOS 12.2.

Only happens on incoming calls. Doesn’t happen every time - have experienced problem 5 times in the last month . I’m using the latest available software from jaguar.

Have tried replacing the lightning cable and restarting the iPhone and forgetting the car and reconnecting.

None of these actions have fixed the problem.

This is a safety concern as my job is to provide emergency respond to failures of critical medical equipment in hospitals. If the caller does not reveal their caller ID then I don’t know which hospital their are calling from or who to call back.

Bluetooth connection works fine.

I got a similar response with JLR and my Evoque. After my initial success with turning off Bluetooth it seems to be just a coincidence as the next time I used the car the fault reoccured. Looking on the Land Rover advisory board others have been having the same issue.

JLR got back to me at the beginning of this week telling me that I need to book the car in for a software upgrade. It's frustrating as there is an option in the menu to update software but it never seems to offer any updates :(

Hey there, John,

Thanks for posting in the Apple Support Communities about your CarPlay issue. If I understand, upon receipt of an incoming call while the device is connected via USB, neither you nor the caller can hear each other. This is isolated to incoming calls, as if you place a call out there is no issue with audio. I'm happy to help!

Based on what you've described, I recommend using the following steps from the Apple Support article How to use CarPlay with your iPhone - Apple Support:

"Get help

If CarPlay doesn't work like you expect, make sure that your iPhone has the latest version of iOS. After your iPhone is updated, follow these steps—checking CarPlay after each step:

  1. If CarPlay doesn't activate automatically, look for the CarPlay logo on your car's display.
  2. Restart your iPhone and your car.
  3. Make sure that Siri is on.
  4. If your iPhone isn't detected by CarPlay, make sure that CarPlay isn't restricted. Go to Settings > Screen Time > Content & Privacy Restrictions, tap Allowed Apps and make sure that CarPlay is enabled.
  5. Go to Settings > General > CarPlay, and tap Forget This Car.
  6. Check your connection:
    • If you have a wired connection, try connecting again with a different USB cable to a different USB port if you have one.
    • If you have a wireless connection, enable AirPlane Mode by going to Settings > Airplane Mode. Don't enable Airplane Mode from Control Center.
  1. If needed, install firmware updates. Check your car's manual for more information.

If you still have issues connecting to CarPlay, contact Apple Support."

Cheers.

I have this issue as well. When I connect my iPhone XS via USB cable to my Jaguar XE. I cannot hear the caller but they can hear me. If I make an outgoing call there is no problem with either incoming or outgoing audio. All other CarPlay operations work fine.

Software is up to date. Have tried different USB cables, restarting iPhone, restarting the car, shouting at the car, making a sacrifice, you name it - nothing works. Tried my iPhone in my wife’s Peugeot and not a problem. Likewise when connected via Bluetooth in my Jaguar it works fine for incoming calls (but this doesn’t initiate CarPlay).

Due to to take the car in to Jaguar to see if they can fix the issue. But I have seen previously that people have experienced the same issue when using other car manufacturers so unsure whether this really is a Jaguar related issue.

When I receive a call through CarPlay I can see the caller ID and I answer the call. I cannot hear the caller through the in-car speaker system however they can hear me.

If I make calls the person can be heard through the speaker system.

Car is a 2019 registered Jaguar e pace. Phone is 7 with iOS 12.2.

I’m using the latest available software from jaguar.

Have tried replacing the lightning cable and restarting the iPhone and forgetting the car and reconnecting, all failed.

None of these actions have fixed the problem.

Interestingly I tried using my iPhone on CarPlay in my wife's 2019 Ford Fiesta (fraction of the cost of my e pace) and it worked perfectly. Would suggest the fault lies with Jaguar and their firmware.

Frustrating
