Logic Pro x converting stereo interleaved file into separate mono left and separate mono Right

I am trying to separate file that was recorded stereo. using convert to separate files. When I try to import it back into 2 separate tracks, each would be a mono file shows as it is stereo. One guy on youtube says there is a bug that adds an extra dot to converted files. If you remove those dots or rename then it will import as mono file. Oh, he says you have to save them to different location as the rest of the audio files.

It kind of worked but you have to close the project, rename files and when reopen logic is asking for those files that were renamed.

BTW I don't just want to use stereo file with mono panned left or anything like that. I NEED SEPARATE MONO FILES WITH MONO WAVEFORM FOR EDITING.

It is simple task that should not take 3 days but only 1 minute. Something like

Select file

convert to separate left and right channel files

import back to timeline as 2 separate files

Hello Logic anything?

Oh, if I have to go to separate editor than what's the logic good for?

Youtube videos have come a long way. Some of them. But the guy in the video has no clue.

  • Click-hold the format button in the channel and select Left
  • Select the Region
  • Bounce in Place w/o FX and w/o Vol/Pan
  • Select the original Region
  • Click-hold the format button in the channel and select Right
  • Bounce in Place w/o FX and w/o Vol/Pan

Takes about 20 seconds

Thanks for getting back to me. Your procedure worked with left channel creating new mono left. It also greyed waveform on original file being bounced, not sure what that means

After changing to right Chanel and bounce in place it created new track with right mono Chanel but it also flattened the left mono channel created first. So it only worked for first in my case left channel.

If you watch the video, that's what I am trying to do. When I convert to new files as interleaved to split, it actually creates 2 additional files half the size of the stereo, but I can't import either one of those as mono, they shoe on timeline as stereo waveform, it kind of like logic imports the original stereo file instead of monos L or R.

BTW when I right click file, scroll down to Convert and then choose create new file (s) it actually is creating 2 different files, when I import into audition it shows mono files. But when I drag either one of those newly created mono files into the Logic's timeline or into new audio track it somehow imports stereo file or both of these files. Guy in the video actually manages to rename them and then he is able to bring them in as mono. In my case renaming wouldn't work. It only workedafter I closed logic and renamed these files, then I was able to drag them in as mono files, except when opening Logic again it had asked for original files that since have been renamed.

I hope this makes sense. and thanks for your time.

It definitely works fine here.

A grey waveform is muted, because you told it to be muted in the BIP dialogue. If you (then) BIP a muted Region, it will be silence.

Select Leave in the BIP dialogue.

If you insist on renaming files, like the guy in the video, Logic will show split stereo files in one Region (two circles), similar to an interleaved file (two overlapping circles). Split stereo files are marked by their filenames ending in file.L.wav and file.R.wav respectively. Removing the point before L and R disconnects them, but Logic needs to be off during that and then you'll be presented with a Where is file.L.wav? dialgue.
