(LPX 10.6) - Easiest / best way to import split stereo files?

My client that has a couple hundred songs that he wants me to transfer into LPX, but he wants the Stereo files to end up dual mono (like PT). Some of the stereo files are .L / .R, but most are interleaved.

I've seen "solutions" that say you have to rename the files after splitting, others that say the splits need to end up in their own folder. Or, make duplicates of the stereo track and pan them, or, set the individual tracks to Left or Right (not Mono or Stereo), cut, then join... I can't get a single one of these to yield results. I can't believe this function is this elusive. I want to drag all the files into LPX and end up with a Project full of Mono tracks.

What's the simplest, "least number of steps" way to do this?

Many thanks!

Resolving my own issue here. It turns out the lengthy work-around is the only way to do this.

In hopes of helping others...

  • Select the Interleaved stereo file you want to split (into 2 mono tracks), then CTRL+Click / Right Click, and select "Convert to New Audio File".
  • In the resulting dialog box, rename the file (otherwise the original will be overwritten) and set "Stereo Conversion" to "Interleaved to Split".
  • Hit Save.
  • This will create 3 files: A renamed copy of the original stereo file (though I can't think of any reason you'd need it), a mono file that ends with ".L.wav, and another ending in ".R.wav"
  • Here's the really broken part: For each new mono file, you have to manually remove the " . " that appears before the L and the R. Otherwise, adding either of these files into Logic will will just give you another copy of the stereo file.
  • Drag the new Mono tracks into Logic.

This is an awkward and klugey process that (IMHO) really needs to be fixed. I can't image a scenario where anyone would want this as a result.
