Hello my macbook is running but it keeps displaying a black screen every couple minutes. I have to close my laptop for several minutes to get it going again but it still happens. The touchbar is still working.

You do not say what exact Mac /model /year /size is this ?

or

what exact macOS you are currently running?

Is this an ongoing issue, new issue / what changed?

The fundamental is Try resetting NVRAM/PRAM http://support.apple.com/kb/ht1379

  1. Stage light effect appears at the bottom of the screen when you set at a high brightness level.
  2. Backlight shutdown comes after opening the lid for above at a certain degree.

Stage light effect and backlight shutdown illustrated in the video

Both of them are caused by a fractured display flex cable due to fatigue.
