MacBook Air stuck in install fail cycle

I was installing the latest update to OS, and during the install (38mins left approx) it keeps failing. I ran the diognasitc and it has come back that there is no issue. tried a number of times to restart and the install keeps failing at the same point....I've managed to restart it in macOS recovery at this point. Anybody have idea what to do next?
