Copying Faces Metadata

I've decided to separate my Photos library into multiple libraries using Power Photos. While I was able to copy a number of photos with folders & albums intact, all of my "People" tags were lost. In addition, it looks like some of my other modifications were lost as well, including photos that were rotated or cropped. How can I re-export the photos from their original libraries so that this metadata is carried over? It wouldn't be such a big deal if OSX Photos facial recognition worked a little better... it really isn't helping me much by automatically finding & matching faces.

I am saving all faces tags as keywords. Power Photos will transfer the keywords, when you split the libraries. Then you can easily identify missing faces tags in the new library with a smart album, for example:

Match all:

  • Keyword is Peter Pan
  • Face is not Peter Pan

The only way to split a library perfectly and lossless - being able to revert all adjustment, , faces tags, projects, would be to duplicate the library. (https://www.fatcatsoftware.com/powerphotos/Docs/copying_limitations.html)

  • Before you duplicate the library create two smart albums: Date Captured is before ... (set this to the date where you want to split the library and another one with Date Captured is after.
  • In Library 1 delete the photos from the first smart albums, in the copy delete the photos from the second album.

Copying and deleting will take some time, but it will safe you the work to add faces tags manually. And the edited versions will be properly paired with the originals. With PowerPhotos you would have the transfer the the edited versions and the originals separately and the photos will not be paired as one photo. The adjustments will be burned in and you can no longer remove adjustments individually.
