2016 15" Touchbar Macbook Pro - have to reset the SMC all the time

I have a 2016 15" touchbar macbook pro. The keyboard and logic board were replaced last week.

I thought that maybe a lot of the quirks of my "old" computer would be resolved, but today only 2 of the 4 usb-c ports are functional.

Is there any long-term fix to some of the intermittent problems fixed by resetting pram or smc? Are they resolved in later MacBooks? Types of problems are:

  • one usb-c port on each side stops functioning
  • wifi will regular latency hiccups
  • not connecting to external displays
  • bluetooth not functioning
  • ... more

MacBook Pro 15", macOS 10.14

Sounds like a faulty logicboard. Take it back, typically you have a 90 day warranty on service repair work.

Restart Safe Mode (hold Shift at startup). This does a five-minute disk repair as it starts up, so it takes much longer. Your user-id and password are required to proceed, even if you normally auto-login.

Safe mode loads on a a minimal set of Apple-only extensions. It takes the default for everything it can. Screen re-draw will be wonky and slow, but ultimately correct.

If the same set of problems do NOT show themselves in Safe Mode, the issues are caused by something you added.

so it's hard to use that as a diagnosis

Safe Mode includes only Apple extensions, and a minimal set. If it breaks the same way in Safe Mode, this is Not caused by invasive third-party extensions. Everything else is sandboxed -- access to system resources are limited, and the App must declare all the resources it intends to use.

Same failure in Safe Mode bolsters your assertion that its Hardware or MacOS related.
