How do I post .gifs into my ebook document using Pages?

I am creating an e-book for an assessment and I would like to have a gif in it. Is there any way I can insert an existing gif that is found on a website (e.g. giphy) into my document successfully?

Why cant we add links to images in pages Using Pages to create ebooks to be read in Apple's Books app. Sounds like a good plan right? A nice authoring app where I use Page Layout mode because it behaves a little, just a little like Adobe inDesign. Well, sorry but you cannot add a link to an image so you have to use the 'invisible text block with link over image trick'. But. That. Doesn't. Work. In. BOOKS! You would think that Apple wants us to use Pages to create ebooks to be read in BOOKS, right? Well, if it had just this one other ability, it would not be necessary to pay $40/month just for inDesign which I will not ever do. So, APPLE! I don't think I am asking a lot. Here is what the text over image trick produces in Books when you export as an EPUB from Pages. Event though I set the text to 0 transparency, it still shows in books. I don't know why Books does not respect transparency settings in this case. I am not trying to use PDF because media embeds don't work unless you pay for the pro version of Acrobat. Apple gives you these great free apps so why would I want to start Paying A$OBE for teeny features that should be in PAGES.

Videos embedded in a Pages doc, playback in other formats? My question I presume that the video playback function only works in Pages or Numbers; meaning, if I produce a PDF version of my product I created in Pages and includes an embedded video, it will not play for someone viewing the PDF version using Preview or Adobe. Would my presumption be correct? If this feature only works when the document is opened in Pages... Is this in development? The ability to keep interactive media functionality in a static document format using any PDF reader, would transform what we create and share in this medium. It's no where near as useful if it only works in Pages, given this Apple product has not managed to disrupted the Microsoft monopoly on the currency of file sharing, even though it is a better product. If Apple can make the video or any multi-media embedded in a Pages doc transferrable to PDF, it would equate with the opportunity to create a well packaged resource that is far more engaging than a standard PDF or report. We could embed data visualizations which would save space on the page. We could embed video created to provide examples or demonstrations that is less impactful in writing. While this sounds just like a webpage, I don't see it as the same. In a way, we have seen letters move from handwriting, to typed, to digital email, to interactive email (watch this, listen here, jump to this webpage, buy this now) To play a video embedded in the layout of a PDF created in the Pages environment would redefine the way we communicate and arrange our messages.

I can confirm that Pages 8.0 does support the exportation of animated .gifs to ePub documents. But…

Although once an animated GIF is dropped in Pages 8.0, and the side panel provides a Movie tab where you can set Repeat to None — once exported to ePub, the animated GIF plays continuously anyway, which in most cases, would be extremely distracting to the person reading the ePub in the Apple Books application. No controls are available to disable the animation within the ePub either.

Think I will submit a bug report to the Pages product team on this.

As I confirmed, I had no issue dragging and dropping a (giphy) animated GIF onto a Pages 8.0 document. Try another GIF image.

Thanks for the replies! I tried dragging gifs into my document and it did not populate anything on the page. No image or even text appeared after dragging it in.

Just drag it into your document.
