App Store payment verification issues iOS 12.3

Last night an issue started where I was trying to download a free app and received a pop up to verify payment settings. I checked my settings in my account, all were correct. I then reviewed the suggestions to check for pending payments, I checked and had none. I have now attempted to download a few other free apps all with the same results. This occurred in the between me adding one free app and realizing it did not have what I needed and then attempting to get another by the same dev. Is this a known issue with iOS 12.3?

If your Apple ID is locked for security reasons, you might see one of these alerts:

  • “This Apple ID has been disabled for security reasons”
  • "You can't sign in because your account was disabled for security reasons"
  • "This Apple ID has been locked for security reasons"

When you see one of these alerts, you can go to iforgot.apple.com to unlock your account with your existing password or to reset your password. After multiple unsuccessful attempts to unlock your account, your Apple ID will remain locked and you can try again the next day.

If you use two-factor authentication, you need a trusted device or trusted phone number to unlock your Apple ID. And if you have a recovery key, you can use it to help you regain access to your account.

I seem to have found the fix/work around for my issue in that I had to completely remove the Apple Pay option from my account and add it back. Once added back it is now allowing me to use the App Store again. Hope this is helpful for anyone that comes across this issue themselves. I just found it odd it occurred in the middle of downloading 2 apps.

Connect to Wi-Fi

If you’re using cellular data or Wi-Fi and have issues with an app, try to connect to another Wi-Fi network. You can use cellular data for apps up to 150 MB* in size.

To check your Wi-Fi connection, try streaming a video from the Internet to see if it loads quickly. Get help connecting to Wi-Fi or contact your Internet provider for more help.
