SOCKS Proxy server

I have just read this topic on Experts-Exchange.com.

https://www.experts-exchange.com/questions/29129587/Mac-OS-Mojave-SOCKS-Proxy-keeps-turning-on-by-itself.html

I have exactly the same problem, the SOCKS proxy server automatically turns itself on when the MacBookAir is started up, and the e-mails are sometimes refusing to work correctly, and some websites won't complete eg dialogue box to log in is blank.

If the SOCKS proxy server is unticked, the mac works fine, until re-booted, with the same result.

Anyone know how to permanently turn it off please?

Thanks in advance.........,

MacBook Air 13", macOS 10.14

Hello Leroy, and thanks for the message. You were correct, there was malware in the system, but before I tried etrecheck I gave the SOCKS proxy a username and password. On re-booting there were 13 individual screen came up requesting the password to let them in eg Google Spotlight Update agent.

I then did a re-boot with Apple Diagnostics (hold D down) and on completion there was an invitation to get a call immediately from an Apple consultant. He got me to install Malwarebytes, and run a check. To cut a long story, there was under profiles 4 examples of "Public Search Board" which had to be removed.

The problem is now seemingly fixed.

Thanks again for your suggestion, which helped me on the way.

I suspect you have installed a third party app that has interfered with the macOS.

To get a good look at your System config. for conflicts or issues, you can run this utility http://etrecheck.com
