Email certificate issues, password

My iphone suddenly says the server "certificate can't be trusted" because it expires 8/5/19 -- which is 3 months in the future. It also says my email server does not accept password authentication, which is not correct.

Here's the problem: The certificate IS valid and the email server REQUIRES password authentication.

And please don't tell me to contact the server "administrator" because that is me (since 1994) and my server tech won't answer iPhone questions. This only started with one of the recent updates. No changes in settings or passwords. I can receive but I can't send, using all the same settings that worked up until recently.

I'm not using SSL so the certificate is irrelevant, but the strangest error message is that the email server "is not responding", after which it downloads several messages from the server it "can't reach".

You have mentioned everything else but failed to give which email account has this problem.

Google, iCloud, AOL, Outlook, Yahoo, Exchange or any Other. I presume it is any other by skimming through your post.

Have you tried deleting and adding again.

The email type is "other", which is indicated in the screen capture. The errors finally went away after fighting with the settings screen for quite a while. I did not have to recreate the email account, I just had to turn off SSL and switch ports. No explanation for it not accepting an "out of date" certificate for next August. That makes no sense at all. No idea why it didn't like my settings after several years that way.
