Cannot connect phone to iMessage or FaceTime

Hello,


i am writing on on behalf of my dad his handset is an iPhone 5 but it will not connect to iMessage or FaceTime it keeps just saying authentication failed I have tried turning off and on, tried resetting network settings and tried signing in and out of his iCloud and nothing has worked can you help?

iPhone 5s, iOS 12
