iMessages and FaceTime failed to authorize

iMessage and FaceTime authorization failed. This iPhone 5s is currently WiFi only and it won't allow me to sign in with Apple ID. If I click sign in with Apple ID it makes the window disappear and does nothing. If I try to sign in with a new Apple ID, it has me sign into my current, but it never gets a chance to fully load because the connection will time out for the original authorization. This is my sisters old phone (factory reset and signed out) and I have never had an iPhone before. SO, how do I get it to allow me to sign in through Apple ID as I assume that’s the only way you can use these without being on a service?

Do you have access to another WiFi network where you can try? That has worked for several people.

Try a restart.

Restart your iPhone, iPad, or iPod touch

Try a forced restart.

Reset Device

If necessary

Hard reset

Do a backup and try a factory reset. Then restore from your backup.

Restore to Factory setting

Backup - Restore your device from an iCloud or iTunes backup
