Reset Apple TV without remote

Hello,

Here is my situation

I do not have the original apple TV remote.

I was using the remote app on my iPhone

I did a factory reset on my apple TV as I was having issues with it.

This disconnected my apple TV from the remote app.

Now when I plug my apple TV in, it wants to do a set up.

As I don't have any remote I can't even get past the first screen which is choosing the language.

When I open the remote app I get the message "Make sure you are on the same wifi network as your Apple TV" which I am.

I have googled it and found that you can use a blue tooth keyboard to connect. My laptop is bluetooth enabled so I tried that, but didn't work.

Does anyone have any ideas how to fix this? I'd rather not have to buy a new remote, I'm happy with the remote app.

You have reset the Apple TV, which means it was wiped and restored to it's factory settings. It is not currently connected to a Wifi network so you would not be able to use the remote app.

Yes, you would be able to use a bluetooth keyboard, but not a laptop. If you don't have a bluetooth keyboard then you would have to purchase one and it would need to paired as part of the Apple TV setup. Or you could purchase a replacement Apple remote.

Note: If you ever lost connection to the network, moved to a new location etc. then you would be faced with the same situation, and it would require a restore each time in order to pair with the keyboard.
