I need to translate a document to other language (created in Pages on Macbook)

Hi,

is there any option to translate (semi)automatically a text document (with some tables), created in Pages (8.0 6194) on Macbook (OSX)? I know about using other tools like google translator, but e.g. MS Word has a translation option, but if I convert the Pages doc to Word doc, it has layout problems, so not an option.

Any ideas?

Thanks,

Peter

There is no translation facility built-in to Pages. You can look in the Mac App Store and search on translation. Look for the top rated offerings, and if they will allow you to copy/paste from Pages and derive an accurate translation in a separate window, that you can copy/paste back into another Pages document.

Your best bet would be someone that you know who is fluent in the target translated language, and can add a human touch to the translation — either directly, or by reviewing the results of the first paragraph.

I will second what Viking has said.

There is no replacement for a human translator.

People are terrible at expressing themselves in their own language, let alone another. Expecting a computer to accurately translate from one language to another and retain the real meaning of that text, is naïve in the extreme.

People who believe this works usual do not speak another language, and are the first to curse the Chinglish instructions that come with their Christmas presents, ignoring that at the other end is another wide eyed optimist who also believes "It just works".

I think you are not aware of what it means.

If you are bothered by the minor changes to the layout converting English text from Pages to Word, that is nothing to what converting English to other languages does to layout. Do you imagine it is like changing the colour of the text?

I don't think you speak or understand any other language.

My friend, believe me, I understand totally all the stuff you write about. Your answers are (I'm sorry, but) worthless.

Just for your information, as you can see I write in English, but my mother language is Slovak. Also I speak Czech and I can communicate/understand in German as well.

Actually I need to translate from Slovak to Hungarian and for my purpose a google translate level is OK.

In general I know that translation makes the text longer or shorter which results in changes in layout, but it is far less destructive then MS Word export.

Peace ;-)
