What are the mazimum number of png files that can be imported in a sequence to Motion?

Four or five thousand of them.
I ended up bringing them in groups of a thousand or so. - then it was okay.
Otherwise it wouldn't do it.
How big were the images?
I just tested importing an image sequence composed of 5000 png files, sized 1920x1080, and it imported instantly, and worked fine.

Just tried it again with 12779 files
uploads something - looks like it might be some of the files - but doesn't play any more than one frame only takes up around 3000 frames on the timeline.
Then I did a second Motion doc - uploaded only 1000 files - and it worked perfectly
AFAICT there is not a maximum. How many are you thinking of?
Can't reproduce this.
Try resetting Motion preferences: hold down command and option while starting Motion and click Delete Preferences.
If that does not fix it, you may want to run Etrecheck and post its report here. There may be a software conflict.

They were 1280 by 1000
I just looked at the job again and it was actually 12,779 png files ranging from 50 to 100 KB.
Any Ideas?
What happened when you tried? Any crash, any error messages? How much RAM in your mac? Which OS, Motion version, mac model?

Tried 10000 HD (1920x1080) images, instantaneous.
My mac is similar, but older (15" rMBP, mid2014).
Just to make sure: are your images numbered, and are you selecting just one (the first one), and check the "Image Sequence" box?
