2 week old iMac Pro, internet had been working, then not. Tried everything, then tried different cable, worked. Then this morning, not working again. Went and bought new ethernet cable, thinking it was the cable, but still not working. On phone w support for over an hour trying to solve, is it possible the ethernet port on the back of my machine has fried??

if they did not suggest then try SMC reset or even a pram zap.

The story is not completed until you figure out what YOU are doing to cause the system management to corrupt. Could be something as simple as plugging in or unplugging ethernet while powered on.
Hot (hardly hot) unplugging Ethernet should not be an issue.
Never has been for me, but then I don't have one of the problematic T2 chip iMac Pros.
