Get Contacts data back on Mac ?

I checked the Contacts app on my iMac and it came up empty of all data.

However, everything in Contacts is there in my iCloud account.

Is there a way I can still use my iMac Contacts App in Applications and get the data back into it from iCloud ?

I did see the way to 'restore' in iCloud Settings but there’s nothing there,  ie nothing to restore.

Thanks

Enter your Apple ID and password at www.icloud.com under iCloud click on all contacts , hold shift key and tap on last contact so that all contacts will be selected .

Click on gear icon in the top left corner and export as v card , again click on finder and simultaneously open address book application , then drag and drop .vcf file over address book folder , a pop window will appear to import cards ( in case if there are duplicate cards click on review duplicates ( it will show to keep both or other options will be shown keep old , keep new ....you have to tap the desired option and again click on update , the contacts will be transferred to the address book folder of your address book application see some screen shots .
