what You are suggesting is very Apple way of saying. I’m sure everyone has done this. As my previous messages, I have done a lot of experiment with my phone and following up by the adviser, still, the result is nul.. if you could provide some more test or experiment for me to test my phone. I would be happy to hear it. But I’m pretty sure what you are suggesting would be sth I had done in the past...

OK, here's a very simple test. Restore your phone to factory settings and do not restore a backup. Do not add any features, do not log in to your Apple ID or iCloud, and don't create any email accounts. The check your battery performance. If the problem is still present your phone has a hardware problem. Yes, I had to call Apple Support and they had me make sure my phone was backed up on iCloud (I have it set to do a backup daily) and then do a factory reset. I then simply restored the latest backup, and phone was good to go within a few hours (how long it took for all the apps to re-download). The battery has been back to normal since then. Per the comment above this, I didn't have to downgrade to 12.3. I simply restored my backup with 12.3.1 and it has been fine.

The rep did tell me that they thought they had resolved all the issues with 12.3.1, but with all the people experiencing this same problem, that's clearly not the case.

Agreed on Apple and iPhone. I am starting to think about whether it's worth it anymore given how much more $$ the computers are, and how much better other phones are becoming...

I was able to solve the sudden battery drain issue with some Genius help. After some careful analyzing we simply used the ""Reset Network Settings" option under settings/general/reset. This seems to have solved the issue that started right after I upgraded to iOS 12.4. So, even though my battery is at 88%, it seems to be working well enough for my admittedly heavy daily use.

Which just goes to show that there are lots of different things causing peoples' battery issues. Troubleshooting is sometimes a matter of throwing things agains the wall until something sticks.

Glad you got it sorted.

No, it doesn't have to be a software error and it could actually be a coincidence. Your iPhone was already near the point it needed to be replaced and the 80% recommendation is just that and not an absolute. I would replace the battery, run the iPhone for 72 hours and see if everything stabilizes. Batteries do not last forever and no one has a lifetime warranty on their phones. I would not delay in replacing the battery as the next symptom will be expansion.

And no, they have never had software that killed batteries.

Since the last update, my battery is almost totally drained when I wake up in the morning. Even if I click the button on the side of the phone to put it in standby mode before I go to sleep.

This didn't happen at all before the update - I would read before bed, put the phone down on my night table, wake up, and the phone would be down to maybe 78 or 80% battery left. Now with this latest update, I pick up the phone in the morning it's down from close to 100% to <20%, or almost dead.

Something is definitely wrong with this update - it is letting whatever apps have not been shut down continue to drain the battery even while in standby mode. The culprits on my phone are Twitter and the like, though my battery settings did say Siri was the major user for one of the hours while I was sleeping - very strange.

The solution is that with this latest update in terms of battery use. It seems I have to turn off all applications or they will continue to drain the battery even while I am sleeping with the phone in standby mode.

Apple if you are listening, please fix whatever is causing this!

Well in my case all I did was not to use my backup at all, that’s what I’m saying, I put my iPhone on DFU mode, restore it with the iOS 12.3 version and I started it like a new iPhone, no backup no nothing, that way you can keep the downgrade but you lose your back up see :/ but I had to make that choice because I could keep using iOS 12.3.1, the problem became soooo badly that just with unlocking my phone it was already overheat :(

SEND FEEDBACK TO APPLE - https://www.apple.com/feedback/

AND TRY

If it helps - I completely drained my battery, then plugged it in. When it started back up, I switched it off with the slider.

I let it charge completely over night.

I am on 98% now after three days with no use.

Previously my battery drained completely in a matter of a few hours from 100%, with no use at all.

My iPhone XR 128GB (100% battery health) is brand new and barely used for 6 weeks when I did the upgrade and ever since the battery drain in idle (even on airplane mode the same) exists. Literally tried everything from a restart to a DFU reset and within all the settings and nothing made any difference. My phone drains exactly 4% of battery per hour in idle regardless day or night. Prior to the upgrade battery life was amazing since I'm not a heavy user could last for 36+ hours from a single charge. Previously owned a 6s and never encountered such a problem. My suggestion for you all is to wait till the next official update which is 12.4 and to do from iTunes instead of the phone itself. Hopefully it just might fix this.

Yep, you have a problem with the same app that gets me many times, Facebook. Try completely removing the app and downloading and installing it again. If you can wait until the next update by Facebook. I don't use WhatsApp but I know some of those that do also have a battery drain problem after updates until the app is updated.

I may have stumbled on the root cause but haven’t tested it thoroughly. Turn off installing apps and see how the battery works. My Bluetooth headphones didn’t drain it like it had been and it seems to be draining normally again.

I haven’t tried it with apps on and auto update off but the battery setting showed uninstalled apps was the biggest drain and that was all that I changed.

If this is the cause and Apple can now fix it they owe me a pair of Beats.
