what You are suggesting is very Apple way of saying. I’m sure everyone has done this. As my previous messages, I have done a lot of experiment with my phone and following up by the adviser, still, the result is nul.. if you could provide some more test or experiment for me to test my phone. I would be happy to hear it. But I’m pretty sure what you are suggesting would be sth I had done in the past...

OK, here's a very simple test. Restore your phone to factory settings and do not restore a backup. Do not add any features, do not log in to your Apple ID or iCloud, and don't create any email accounts. The check your battery performance. If the problem is still present your phone has a hardware problem. Here are the instructions for restoring to factory settings-->Restore your iPhone, iPad, or iPod to factory settings - Apple Support

I am still resisting wiping my phone and still experience ultra fast battery drain in iOS 12.3.1. I have some observations that might be of interest. Along with turning off all background refresh on apps, I have been turning off as many settings as possible and experimenting with others:

  • Mail—I disabled push and switched to manual fetch. If Mail is “open” in the background and even with all settings to fetch or push off-battery drain is amazingly fast. Hard closing it on my iPhone X stops the drain. So, don’t use mail unless attached to power?
  • Safari-more or less same as mail. Use only when attached to power and keep totally closed when using battery and battery function returns to “normal”
  • Spotlight Search-this function has been whacked for me since installing iOS 12.3.1. I have had to resort to using the App Store to open apps. It does not show as draining the battery but I can’t be sure it is not. When swiping down on the screen to use Spotlight, sometimes there is a several second delay and often the icon for the app being searched displays for a flash and then the screen goes blank. Sometimes, Spotlight just churns and does nothing. These two behaviors are strange and I wonder if they are not also part of the perhaps larger problem
  • I have removed all apps that needed IOS updates. I removed Facebook as someone suggested since I don’t use it and figured “why not”.

There is something causing conflicts in the iOS-or, a combination of things that are resulting in this super fast battery drain happening in certain phones and not in others.

Wondering if an app is not compatible with 12.3.1 and attempting to connect to (?data source on internet) and failing over an over.

There is a simple way to test that. Back up your phone then restore it to factory settings. Test for a couple of days. If the battery life is better, the problem is something you have loaded onto the phone.

  1. I have read the whole thread. And lots of similar threads going back to iPhoneOS (before they changed the name). Have you?
  2. Then whatever is causing your battery drain is something Apple doesn't know about.
  3. Then it is time to keep looking.
  4. So if your battery is actually failing replacing is not a solution? How about when it starts swelling and pushes your screen out? Is it a solution at that time?

And the diagnostic method of running the iPhone bare for 48 - 72 hours lets the phone do all the spotlight indexing, back ups, etc. to see if the battery use stabilizes. If it doesn't then something is wrong with the iPhone and further testing is needed and you have ruled out that it is a 3rd party app. If it does stabilize then one of the 3rd party apps is triggering it. The hard part now is to find out which one.

Now just wait for the thread to appear that says "iOS update 12.4 now Battery draining". The early posts will ask how you go bak to 12.3.1 which was working perfectly.

Apple takes REAL customer complaints seriously. The issue is not a real complaint. It is a problem with your phone, not with any specific version. If it was caused by the version, which is installed on roughly 500 million phones, you would see tens of thousands of posts about it. So first update to 12.4.1 (which fixes a really critical vulnerability) and if you still have a problem either use standard troubleshooting techniques or make a Genius Bar appointment, where they will use those standard troubleshooting techniques in front of you-->Genius Bar Reservation and Apple Support Options - Apple

Yes! iPhone SE. Yesterday I picked up my phone which had been sitting on my desk all day unused and it was down to 12%. When I checked battery usage 65% of that was from Messages. This morning my phone had gone overnight from fully charged to 11% and 45% of usage was battery. I’m glad I found your question! Rebooting the phone by holding the power and the home button for several seconds will help for a while.

looks like this issue is affecting all apple devices, even the new ones. I gave up on Apple solving the issue for my 6th gen iPod touch. I bought a $5.00 power bank from Five Below and a 6 inch lightning cable from Amazon. Rubber band them together and I’m back in business. Very sad situation but at least I have my podcasts again while I mow the lawn.
