what You are suggesting is very Apple way of saying. I’m sure everyone has done this. As my previous messages, I have done a lot of experiment with my phone and following up by the adviser, still, the result is nul.. if you could provide some more test or experiment for me to test my phone. I would be happy to hear it. But I’m pretty sure what you are suggesting would be sth I had done in the past...

OK, here's a very simple test. Restore your phone to factory settings and do not restore a backup. Do not add any features, do not log in to your Apple ID or iCloud, and don't create any email accounts. The check your battery performance. If the problem is still present your phone has a hardware problem. Here are the instructions for restoring to factory settings-->Restore your iPhone, iPad, or iPod to factory settings - Apple Support

I recently upgraded my iPhone 7 plus to 12.3.1 and the battery started to drain very quickly as mentioned in this thread. I called Apple Support and they are not aware of this issue. If you have a couple of minutes, I recommend calling them to let them know so that they can escalate the issue. The only solution they could offer was to try factory reseting the phone.

Yes, very much so. And obviously the extraordinary heat as a result.

Wondering if an app is not compatible with 12.3.1 and attempting to connect to (?data source on internet) and failing over an over. The only time I've ever noticed batt drain/heat like this is constant network activity for hours, especially when having difficulty connecting.

Is there anyone from Apple who is even reading these?

No. This is a user-to-user forum. Apple's participation here is minimal. That's explained in the Terms of Use to which you agreed when you registered.

1) Clearly you have not read it, otherwise you would know that common factor is that it happens after the OS update.

2) Apple is aware of it, had you read the threads you would know that many of us have gone down to Apple to bring up the issue. Their excuse is always to change the battery or get a new phone.

3) If you had read the thread as you claim then you would be aware that I have changed my battery before as it was starting to fritz. After the battery change the phone was working fine - until the OS update, when suddenly, as if by magic, the battery drains at an unprecedented rate, it drops from 90% to less than 10% and then suddenly shuts down and refuses to turn back on as if the battery was flat. When I plug in the lightning cable the phone turns back on showing at least 15% and within about 15 minutes it charges back to 70%.

So unless Apple has miraculously and secretly enabled my lightning cable to supercharge my phone I am hard pressed to agree that it's the battery.

4) You say that we fail to consider a third party app, I would say that you assume that it is a third party app. Not everyone updates the apps immediately after the OS change, there are those who do and those who don't. Yet the problem still occurs. if you want to claim its the app, then either the older version is faulty (then regardless of whether we use the latest OS or the previous, the problem would occur), or the newer version is faulty (and would not explain why those of us who are using a version of an app that's not updated are facing the same problem). Either way the common factor here is the OS.

5) There have also been others here who have also said that they reset their phones to factory mode after - ergo, there are no 3rd party apps which can be blamed yet the battery drain still occurs.

The Iphone 6 that I still have? The one which I changed the battery? I tried factory resetting it and loaded only Whatsapp and it still happens. Amazingly my older iOS devices? The ones which are no longer supported by Apple (meaning no more updated OSes), their battery life is still doing fine. No sudden battery drain and shut down.

The common factor amongst the complaints have been that the severe and sudden battery drain occurs after the OS update. It is as if the OS has been designed to figure out how old the phone is and to cause problems so as to encourage us to buy a newer model of phone, something I wouldn't mind if not for the cost.

Yep. I usually don't notice my battery much because I use a charger all the time. (in the car, at work, at home, etc) My phone is used a lot so I instinctively put it on a charger. That being said, in two hours it went from 100% to 48%. Then I watched it drop each minute with no apps running. I rebooted the phone just to be sure, and it rebooted from 34% to 1% after the reboot. However, It worked fine. I checked emails and downloaded pix but the percentage said 1% the whole time.

My iPhone 7 has a battery drain since IOS 12.3.1

It happens just at night when all apps are closed and the iPhone is loaded by the power cable. In the morning the ‘activities’ show 100% during the complete night till I use my iPhone again in the morning. You do not find the extreem use by some app. It is IOS that is consuming. By the extreem and long activity at night, the iPhone is not loaded to 100%.
