iPhone X is stuck

My iPhone X is stuck on “Select a Wireless Network” and doesn’t respond to pressing cancel or trying to force a restart. It doesn’t respond to anything. I was in a store when I pulled the phone out of my pocket and it displayed “Select a Wireless Network”, but was unresponsive. Now at home, it remains unresponsive. What can I do?

If it is frozen, see if this helps: https://support.apple.com/en-gb/HT201412

None of those work. I would think that the iPhone 8 or later instructions would work, but the normal shutdown screen appears with the slider to shutdown. I can’t use the slider because the frozen “Select a Wireless Network” box remains in the foreground and prevents me from doing anything else on the screen.

OK. Tried one more time. In the previous three tries the phone appeared to merely timeout. This time I pressed the side button several times longer than forever and it restarted. To avoid this in the future, I think I need to turn off the automatic join on networks as no new ones ever appear until I travel and there are some like the store I visited today that never complete their login due to my using a VPN on public networks.

thanks all for your help.
