Grey and white screen - MacBook Pro

Occasionally when I open my laptop, a grey and white screen appears. Once it happens I usually close my laptop for a minute and when I reopen it, the problem is gone. I've noticed this happens when I lift the screen absent-mindedly using my left hand, which makes me think it is a loose wire issue. Any suggestions?

Take the laptop to an Apple Store or Apple Authorized Service Provider to be examined. It may qualify for one or more free Apple repair programs. It almost sounds like a Display Cable issue similar to the one offered in the free repair program, but the free repair program only covers backlight cable issues which doesn't seem to be the case here.

In addition the issue could be software related, an SSD issue (there is an SSD free repair program), or a GPU issue. You could run EtreCheck to look for software issues and post the report here using the "Additional Text" icon which looks like a piece of paper.

Thanks for your input. I've made an appointment at an Apple Store this week to have it looked at.

I'm hoping it will somehow qualify for a free repair. I don't qualify for the SSD one because I bought the laptop in late March 2017.

Feeling a little annoyed about this because within the 1st year I needed the SSD replaced and though it was covered, you don't expect problems like that within the first few years. And a new issue now. My old MacBook Pro lasted 5+ years with 0 issues :/

For anyone out there wondering, went into Apple today and they ran a test that couldn’t find the problem. They said to fix the problem, the problem has to happen almost all the time so they can do more trouble shooting. They suspected it could be 1 of 3 issues, and they thought it was the most expensive of them. So hopefully it won’t get worse.

Obviously grateful that this problem is a minor issue, but overall disappointed with the quality of the newer Apple MacBook pros.
