Try going to System Preferences/iCloud/iCloud Drive/Options and turn Optimization off. Then go to iCloud Drive in the Finder Sidebar and drag the files to your Desktop.

Desktop icons have disappeared All of my desktop icons have disappeared. I have iCloud enabled and had the Desktop & Documents Folders selected in the settings for iCloud. The problem is that if I click to select that it takes about 1 second saying Setting Up then nothing. I click done, then go back into the iCloud settings and the selection is NOT selected. Nothing that I can do will allow me to keep that selection. The only thing that changed was I dropped from a 2TB to a 200GB iCloud account, but I have over 100GB free under the 200GB account. How can I retrieve my created desktop icons which changed after uploading desktop to iCloud? After mistakenly uploading my desktop to iCloud, all of my created/personalized desktop icons changed back to folders or html. Some of these were designs I had created. Is it possible to change them back, or do I have to locate the logos/images and change every folder individually? If you see the attached screenshot, two of them did not change to folders and kept the ones I had created. Why did these remain unchanged?
