'Connection Failed' attempting to file share from 10.13.6 to 10.12.6

Hi. Trying to access a MacBookPro (10.12.6) from a Mac Pro (10.13.6, APFS SSD) as registered admin user and repeatedly get 'Connection Failed' message.

I've tried the 'Sharing Only' new user account, and the

sudo /usr/libexec/configureLocalKDC

Terminal command fix, and still no joy.

I can access the Mac Pro FROM the MacBookPro, so the network is good, but not the other way round.

Any better ideas, please?

On the MBP disable AFP sharing & enable SMB sharing.

Older Macs should be able to use SMB or AFP, new Macs cannot use AFP, so if you want to try with both enabled be sure to use smb://ip.of.other.mac to connect.

In the Sharing Pref Pane, highlight File Sharing...

Click on Options...

Thanks for the 'idiot's' guide - I needed it (didn't think to highlight 'File Sharing' so no options were visible.

One quick supplementary question: is it an either SMB or AFP, or can I leave both selected? I have other 'Sierra' machines (and earlier) that I still need to network...
