encrypted folders in icloud

I have an encrypted folder sparseimage on my iMac which contains a pages document. I have recently set up iCloud and added my documents to the cloud storage. I can open all of my documents from the iMac on my iPad except that the encrypted folder only shows as an empty folder on the iPad. It still opens fine on the iMac. I have High Sierra 10.13.6 on the iMac and iOS 9.3.5 on the elderly iPad.

iOS can’t read a sparse image file like macOS can.
