Magic Mouse 2 not tracking

Brand new Magic Mouse 2 will not follow natural finger movement - only moves up and down within an app, like Safari or Pages. No left and right or any other direction. Will not move out of one app to another app. I tried System Prefs > Accessibility > Mouse Options. I tried Mouse Preferences. Any other ideas please. I have both Magic Mouse 2 and Magic Trackpad 2. Mojave 10.14.5.

Hi. I hope we are able to get this resolved. It may be difficult bet lets see if we can solve your issue!

I will be providing you with a few solutions below.

If at anytime you have a question or concern, please reply to this post!

1) Try cleaning off the top section of your mouse that you use for scrolling with a microfiber cloth or lens cleaner.

2) Flip over the mouse so that the bottom of it is facing up --> Turn the switch to the 'Off' position --> Wait a few seconds --> Now, try turning it back on --> Reconnect the mouse and try using the gesture features --> If this did not resolve your issue, please proceed to 3)

3) On your Mac, click the  on the top left of your display --> Click 'About This Mac' --> If your Mac is running El Capitan or later, your Mac should be good to go; the software wouldn't be the issue --> If your Mac is newer than these, than your Mac is all set as well: However, if your Mac software is older than El Capitan and is not newer than the Macs listen below, you will not be able to fully utilize the Magic Mouse 2's capabilities -->

  • iMac (Mid-2007 or later)
  • MacBook (13-inch Aluminum, Late 2008), (13-inch, Early 2009 or later)
  • MacBook Pro (13-inch, Mid-2009 or later), (15-inch, Mid/Late 2007 or later), (17-inch, Late 2007 or later)
  • MacBook Air (Late 2008 or later)
  • Mac Mini (Early 2009 or later)
  • Mac Pro (Early 2008 or later)
  • Xserve (Early 2009)

If any of these solutions did not work, I'm sorry. Let's keep going and get this right.

4) Take a look at the physical conditions of your Magic Mouse 2 --> If you notice any damage such as major scratches on the mouse, missing parts, separation between the top section and the aluminum body, or anything out of the ordinary, try visiting your local Apple Store or contact Apple Support.

5) If all of these steps have not solved your issue, I suggest reaching out to Apple and seeing what your options are.

I hope that I was able to help you today! If not, I hope I was able to steer you in the right direction. Best of luck to you and your mouse. Have a great day!
