imac internet recovery wifi log in does not work

why does my imac not connect to wifi, i enter the password correctly, then a loading icon shows up, i waited for 30 minutes and it was still on that wifi sign in screen. whats the issue with the imac, is the airport card broken, or i have to install the os using a usb. the only thing that happens when i click the sign in button after entering the password is a loading icon appears and is stuck like that. there is no popup saying i have sucessfully signed in or the password is wrong? i am restoring my imac so i need help asap
