Hi folks. I don’t know if you’ve tried this, but I’ve FINALLY managed to get round the problem.

I’m using my 2nd pair of these earphones, due to me swapping my first pair that I thought had an issue. But it’s going to be the same on virtually EVERY pair of these headphones for ALL of us.

The design is terrible, and it’s all because the connection points are so small. What I do now after using them, is slide the main screen of my iPhone or iPad to the right to display the battery levels of all of my linked devices, and then open my Powerbeats Pro charging case. The case should be displayed on the screen and also show the headphones individually. As they are placed into the charging case, they should individually show a ‘bolt of lightning’ image next to each of them if they are charging. If not, then slowly and VERY carefully apply tiny movements to the individual headphone until it displays the ‘bolt of lightning’ image on the screen. Once both of them have that image, carefully close the lid, and be careful as you move the charging box around.

It’s a terrible design, but at least the headphones are great when I’m out running or in the gym.

***I hope I’m helping someone, because I’m finally happy now that I’ve figured out this terrible design error.***

You have to push them in so they make the contact with the pins. You check the charging status on your phone. You will have to make sure that you can see red charging bolt beside the earphone before closing the case. On couple of occasions I had one of my earphones not willing to charge at all draining the case completely overnight, this issue will only get corrected by connecting them to Beats firmware update software, after you initiate check for new firmware they should start recharging again.

Wife and I bought a set each; my left earbud stopped charging after a week - fiddled around being ultra careful to seat them into the case so they charged (which already indicates a serious design flaw) but it stopped charging completely. Took them back for repair and entire left unit was replaced. Now about 6 weeks on the wife's right ear bud is not charging!

So to summarise:

  • Poor case design that requires 'fiddling' to get the contacts aligned.
  • Two different sets purchased same time - both failing to charge completely after a period of time.
  • Issues with the connection process; sometimes the mac 'looses' them and I have to reconnect.
  • Have had to completely reset them once as they refused to connect to my mac even though I'd been using them a few hours previously.

The hallmarks of a second rate product for a premium price from a company that prides itself on quality?

My advice to anyone thinking about purchasing these ... don't.

lol, I am glad everyone is here now. I was early adopter of this product. I got it in late May when no one had it in stock. I already experienced this problem, and back then when I googled this issue, nothing came up. I am on my 2nd set of Power Beats Pro. same problem. But I gave up. Pretty much it's the EarPods not sitting snug in the charging box. I guess everyone had figured that out. It is absolutely annoying. You cannot move the box almost at all. I carry it around like some sort of jewelry box. if you turn it upside down, sideway, or put it any bag, it's game over. anyway. I give up. It works very very well for me at gym, I just have to be really carefully charging it. Once they are in the charging box, I leave it alone on the dining table lol. Never had problem since.

There should be a fix for this though, or at least have a way to manually turn it off like the regular good old PowerBeats. So even if it's out of charging position, it doesn't drain itself to death. I hate it when I wake up in the morning ready to go to gym and find one side of the earbud is 0% charged.

This is exactly the problem. The charging case is poorly designed. I've found it can happen to either left or right but seems to be more frequent on the left headset. Also, not only does the offending headset not charge but it will rapidly discharge. My "fix" is to stand there with my iphone, put both powerbeats in the case and wait for the charging screen on the iphone to pop up. I will then take the right headset out of the case and the charging app will show if the left headset is charging with a little lightening bolt icon next to the left headset. If the headset that is still in the charging cradle does not show the lightening bolt it will discharge rapidly. I press down on it until the lightening bolt appears. This is not a perfect workaround because the iphone app can be unstable for reasons I haven't been able to figure out - but it does work most of the time.

Also, if anyone moves the cradle around it is easy for the left headset to lose contact and all this fussing around goes into the toilet.

Mine were a ***** to get working in this last case. Last night I could not even get the case to charge even though the lightning cord was able to charge my Apple Watch via the nightstand.

This morning I tried a different cord and got the case to start charging.

Double checked the other cord and yes it was working away charging my Apple Watch.

Cleaned, licked, cleaned the contacts on the Powerbeats Pro repeatedly.

Only the Left side would start to charge.

Repeated the cleaning, pushing on contacts, opening case, checking charge, and finally both started charging and went to 100%.

Why they were even full discharged is confusing since they were not linked to any playing devices when they were last put away.

Good luck to anyone with similar issues. Seems repeated fiddling will help but yields no logical reason other than a poor design on the charging aspects of this device.

My issue wasn't the charging case. After several attempts I got Apple to send me a warranty replacement box. I sent them in and they replaced the left pod as "dead". So there is some issue with pods dying or more specifically left power beats pro pods dying. My new one is working so far but its only been used for about an hour or two total. Will report back.

Ok so I have had two Powerbeats now and same issue with both...I do wonder if when you finished listening to music you just put them in the case close it and that’s it... (how it should be) but... I noticed that the phone just does not release the Powerbeats or visa versa so it is still talking mainly to the left one... if this is not addressed then it just slowly drains of power till empty ... I make more of an effort now to place them in the case, then check on the phone, make sure no where is it picking up the ‘ beats’ ie in the widget area or anywhere else... if it still shows up even when the case is closed , then open and close case till it shows the phone has stopped communicating with ‘beats’ this does not fix the issue but has stopped me being disappointed when about to go for a jog while listing to music ... hope this helps ..
