Resizing Partition Failed 'MediaKit reports partition (map) too small'

Hi,

I am upgrading my Apple TV Generation 1 HD from 160Gb to 1TB and am trying to resize the 'Media' partition in 'Disk Utility' to take advantage of the 840GB free space.

The hard drive is functioning perfectly inside the Apple TV Generation 1 but for some reason every time I try to enlarge the 'Media' partition I get following error message 'MediaKit reports partition (map) too small'.

Please see below what I am trying to resize and the error I encounter:

I was using my 'root' login to carry out this process as I had been using 'dd' commands in 'Terminal' to write my new 1TB HD.

After this failed I tried using 'Stellar Partition Manager' but while the programme reported the process successful, nothing had happened.

I am using macOS Mojave Version 10.14.5.

I have actually solved the issue using my old white MacBook (2.26Ghz Intel Core 2 Duo) running macOS 10.8.1 and using iPartition:

It's such a shame they shut down Coriolis Systems (iPartition) at the beginning of this year (2019).

When an OS formats a partition it must decide upon the optimal block size. In this case the original block size is too small to work for a 1TB drive so the partition cannot be expanded to utilize the 1TB size. You will need to erase the new drive and see if Carbon Copy Cloner (CCC) can "clone" everything to the new drive.
