eGPU with Mac mini 2018

I am confused whether I should connect eGPU with Mac mini or with monitor directly! Thunderbolt 3 monitor is expensive, and usb-c port (without thunderbolt 3) has smaller bandwidth (does eGPU work only by thunder old 3? Or it works too with hdmi/DisplayPort?). Then, except black magic and sonnet, does the Razer one also support? Thanks.

I disregard iMac due to its old-looking design.

Multiple monitors using eGPU Hi, I would like to use 7 monitors (1 x 4K monitor with following connections: DP x 1, Mini DPx 1, HDMI with HDCP (Ver. 1.4) x 2 & 6 x 2k monitors (2560x1440) with following connections: 2 HDMI (MHL) connector, 1 Mini DisplayPort, 1 DisplayPort (version 1.2), 1 DisplayPort out (MST)) on newest Mac Mini. I don't have big graphic requirements (mainly used for system monitoring (via browsers)). I suspect I would need to use minimum 1 eGPU but I never done something like this before as I'm new to Apple. 2018 Mac Mini with Radeon RX580 eGPU: connecting Thunderbolt monitor to eGPU not working Hi! I have a 2018 Mac Mini and am still using my 2014 Apple Thunderbolt display. I just got a Radeon RX580 in a Razer Core X box to support it. Currently the eGPU is connected to the Mac Mini by USB-C, and the monitor is connected to the Mac via a Thunderbolt-to-USB-C adaptor. If I connect the display to the eGPU using a Thunderbolt-to-HDMI adaptor and restart, the display remains black. Is there any way to use the Thunderbolt display connected directly to the eGPU?
