Battery Drain on 2019 Macbook Pro 13" w/touch bar.

Hi!!

I hope you're all doing well!

I recently purchased the 2019 Macbook Pro 13" w/ touch bar and since the day of purchase I have been experiencing battery drain issues. I have tried multiple steps digging into multiple forums online. None helped. The only thing I have connected to it are: The External SSD & Bluetooth Mouse.

Yes - Power nap is disabled, Do not disturb while sleep is on, Bluetooth device to wake the screen is unchecked.

I'm running out of options and I desperately need help. I lose about 30-40% battery over night (6-7 hours).

This is not normal. Are there any solutions, someone tried and it worked for them? I'll appreciate any help. Thanks! 😊

Hi Syed00,

Thanks for the reply. To double-check, were you able to verify that "Put hard disks to sleep when possible" is checked under System Preferences > Energy Saver? It sounds like checking that might clear up the issue with the external drive.

You might also use the articles posted above to check the Energy tab in Activity Monitor; this would tell if you a specific process related to the external drive is in use and possibly causing the behavior. For example, some external drives have software from the manufacturer that might be a factor: How to use Activity Monitor on your Mac

Best wishes.

Hi Syed00,

Thank you for posting in the Apple Support Communities. I understand you have some concerns about the battery usage on your new Mac and I'm glad to see if I can assist.

If you're finding the battery life is decreasing significantly overnight, this resource is your best starting point, specifically the "If your Mac doesn't go to sleep when you expect" and "If your Mac wakes unexpectedly" sections: If your Mac doesn't sleep or wake when expected. You can also check out Activity Monitor to get an idea of which apps are using the most battery life, which would help get to the bottom of the issue: See how apps affect Mac performance, battery runtime, temperature, and fan activity

I hope this helps to get you started on clearing up the battery issue! Have a great day.

Hi Syed00,

Thanks for the reply. I recommend checking out the Activity Monitor app instead since this will give you information about the specific processes on your Mac, and how they're using your battery. Check out the "CPU" and "Energy" sections of this resource; this will tell you which processes are using the most battery power:

Hi!

I did go through the article and have tried everything that is mentioned in there.

But still the same issue.

I downloaded a battery health app from App Store to monitor the battery health. Attached is the screen shot which shows my time remaining which are super low than they are supposed to be.

Please review the screenshot and let me know what I should do next.

Thanks!

Alright, so I got my battery drain problem (when the lid was closed) fixed, partially...

The only issue remains is, when the lid is closed, the battery drains only when the external hard drive is connected to it. After about 7-8 hrs of sleep there is about 8-12% battery loss, and the attached SSD is super hot.

Is there any way to fix that, without unplugging it?
