At this time the Service Program is limited to 13".
https://support.apple.com/13-inch-macbook-pro-display-backlight-service
however if at any time it is expanded to include your 15", typically Apple will issue a refund for out of pocket expenses for parts & labor... Having a service ticket will be your receipt..."affected by this issue, and you paid to have your display repaired, you can contact Apple about a refund."
In the mean time—

Just posting this again since some people seem to think they can work “together” with apple (lol)
I have the same issue, Funny thing is they kinda of sort of last till right after Apple Care + lol mine went out in Sept and Screen died in Jan, plus those videos to repair it are insane, all that work that goes into it just for a $2 ribbon cable
Also my the left side speaker on my 2016 15” MBP stopped working within weeks of getting it. I was in the middle of south East Asia producing music, no where near an AppleStore. So fixing it wasn’t an option. 2 years later the back light issue and deteriorating processing power left me in the middle of Central Asia on an island, also no where near an Apple store, last year at the beginning of the pandemic.. and I’m there with my 7 year old daughter, and her mama in another country. We were safe on that island.. and I was trying my best to setup my gear so I can work. and at the beginning of 2020 my screen stops working completely, after having this stage light effect. I was able to find a monitor to use, but it was from 2005 or something... I liked the retro look, but when I tried to set this gear up for work.. it wasn’t possible.
I paid money for tools. And when I needed those tools the most, they failed to work due to the designers design flaws. When I ask the designer who I gave my money to, they are ignoring me. This has been saddening and maddening. And now I’m here writing like a silly person on the internet. I don’t know what to do.
I have same exactly issue with my MacBook Pro 15” 2017 .
after 2.5 years
Apple asking 680 $ for repair .
It Is now Class Action Lawsuit Over Macbook Pro's "Flexgate"
Scandal
It mainly talking about 2016 13” Flexgate defect . I will be
contacting law firm to clarify if 15” included as well
The crazy thing is there are lots of emails coming into my inbox for this thread and when I want to reply them they are gone
simple Threads asking for laws suit for example, deleted.
still the thread has almost 200 replies!
apple is trying to move this under the carpet so all people who would eventually take advantage of a replacement will buy not one but several machines until then.
that’s criminal. Apple should be brought to justice for fraudulent and wrongful promotion of faulty products
My comment was deleted! I am having. The problem with my 2016 15 inch MacBook Pro as well. Only 3 years old. 700 dollars to fix it when I can get a new computer for 1000! And sounds like it will just break again anyway.
Does the screen cost 700 dollars to make or are they making a profit off of selling this stuff to us too?
Apple created a smokescreen with the repair program for one model, one size, one year and it worked. They are not going to do anything else. We are just screaming into the void. Go buy a new macbook pro and hope it doesn't have some other fatal flaw.
My 2017 MacBook Pro has the same issue open about 45 deg and boom screen goes out. My apple care expired Sept 2020 and now I am being told its going to be about $700 to replace a whole screen when I read its a $2 ribbon cable that causes it. I have to use my MacBook as a desktop now, dusted off the old Cinema Display. A $2000 + laptop turned into a makeshift iMac
I have the same issue #flexgate on my mac pro touch bar 15 inches 2017 model. Apple quoting $700 to repair. This was a $3000 laptop and it didn't even last 3 yrs. Totally ridiculous. We have been in the apple ecosystem with only apple products since 2007. Never again!
I have the stage light problem now on my 2016 MBP 15" Apple has a program that they are applying ONLY to 13 " models, providing a 5 year extended warranty to cover what is a $600 replacement. I tried calling Apple support anyway, and they were clueless and unhelpful. I went in to the Apple store today, just to get the problem validated by a "Genius", but we need to make some noise about this.
I am trying to find my way around this website where you can write to Apple-there is such a page, but I can't figure out where it is...
I had the keyboard issue early on, and they didn't know what to do. They replaced one thing after another. Would have been cheaper for them to replace the laptop. And now I have the stage light problem...
"Apple does not admit that this is a problem and not offering
any program. They are asking ~700$ US for repair"
so far that looks like what can be interpreted from their silence.
They admit / take responsibility for this exact issue with the 13 inch, less expensive to fix models, but for the 15 inch, more expensive to fix models, yes, they didn't admit this is a problem yet.
I am facing the exact same problem with my Macbook 15''. The screen has been not working when opened over 45 degrees. Been using it with a monitor and macbook acts just as a CPU now.
Saw this recent article: https://in.pcmag.com/laptops/141840/judge-decides-apple-knowingly-sold-defective-macbook-pros
I am just amazed that there still is no solution from Apple!
It has been more than one year since my 2016 MacBook Pro that I bought new in Feb 2017 has been stuck with this problem. So it has been one year that I am using my $3K+ laptop as a desktop with an external display.
It is really disappointing that Apple has still not issued a free replacement / fix for our laptops.
Still waiting... :(
Question is do they read these posts? My experience with the phone banks is that those folks always claim not to have heard of any problems I bring up. When I got my MBP I had the skipping and wandering cursor. Same thing. They also refuse to accept any request to pass up a problem report, saying they have no way of doing so. They are very basically trained to tell you what you can find online anyway.
