"Apple does not admit that this is a problem and not offering

any program. They are asking ~700$ US for repair"

so far that looks like what can be interpreted from their silence.

They admit / take responsibility for this exact issue with the 13 inch, less expensive to fix models, but for the 15 inch, more expensive to fix models, yes, they didn't admit this is a problem yet.

i have had bad experience with my macbook pro 15inch (2016) already had major repairs during the warranty period and now I have flexgate issue. I went to Apple in Brussels. The guy checked it and said yes its the same issue as the 13ich but it's not cover so and he needs to have a chat with the manager. The manager was an ******* and it end up the person I had a chat before i set down with the technical guy.. i explained the manager that the issue is a flexgate and he said because it has the symptom it does not mean is the same and will not be covered as he already knew about flexgate... from the distance the technical guy looked like he was arguing with the manager while the manager was looking at me like to say that I am not going to approve it because I don't like you... very disappointed

Hi All,

I have started to experience the stage light issue on MBP 15 (late 2016) this week.

When I called the support, the advisor told me that there are not enough cases reported to have Apple create a repair program for MBP15. There was no point arguing with the advisor, however I would urge everyone to report this to Apple if not done already. Btw, How much time do I have before the complete blackout?

It is an another story that the display of my 2019 MBP 13 bought in Dec 2019 also failed last week. TBH, it is high time Apple should fix these issues given we put faith and money in Apple products.

Thanks!

Just replacing another 15inch with the same problem this will be the second for me. How can Apple not warranty such a defect it very unbelievable.

and the cost for repair is very high. I wonder if can they recycle the old screens. Such a waste!!

My technician offered to repair the cable (it was in Ethiopia they can fix anything down to the SC !!. Ie rebuild all laptop batteries with new cells, design and make ribbon cables on the fly. It's incredible what they do. I have nothing but praise for them. However I decided to go Apple repair.

I donated the laptop to my friend working for a non-profit charity they do not have the money for such computers. Needless to say it was very expensive I had ship out of Africa take it to be repaired and return to Africa. Lots of paper to avoid being taxed as it was originally donated and tax free. It had to exported and re-imported

So massive headache.

My point being I got him an Apple at the extra cost just to avoid this issue. If you have an Apple you should be good to take it on an expedition or to a remote camp. We all do not have the luxury of dropping into the Apple lounge bar!

I sure the marketing will want to see us take an Apple on every remote expedition.

They should include in the fine print Good for Expeditions Please note only open the screen less than 100 times or you risk haven't to $1000 to repair it"

You are absolutely right. That is exactly what I think as well.

It is just so strange that Apple is still not handling properly this issue. It is clear that there is a design flaw, yet they are trying to save some money by not doing the right thing towards their customers!

My $3.5K MacBook Pro also became useless 6 months ago after exactly 3 years due to the flexgate issue and I am still waiting for Apple to do the right thing.

I am still hopeful that this issue will reach higher administration at Apple and that they will finally wake up and do something about it. But unfortunately time is going by in the meantime, and our laptops, even if fixed for free at some point, are becoming more and more obsolete!

I started with the Apple IIe computer and have been a loyal customer for over 35-40 years now, but it is the first time that Apple lets me down...

I have same issue. Display goes off when opened more than 45 degrees. I paid more to buy a 15" than 13" and even bulkier than 13". I repent my decision as 13" is covered and 15" isn't and cost of replacement is equivalent to buying a very good brand new windows laptop. I have so many apple devices and has been a big apple fan. But this is just a shame that i have to pay out of my pocket for an issue which existed when i bought the laptop and not a damage by me. I have always used best in class accessories to fully protect my laptop from any accidental damage. I am not getting it replaced and prefer to buy a 4k monitor.

Also my the left side speaker on my 2016 15” MBP stopped working within weeks of getting it. I was in the middle of south East Asia producing music, no where near an AppleStore. So fixing it wasn’t an option. 2 years later the back light issue and deteriorating processing power left me in the middle of Central Asia on an island, also no where near an Apple store, last year at the beginning of the pandemic.. and I’m there with my 7 year old daughter, and her mama in another country. We were safe on that island.. and I was trying my best to setup my gear so I can work. and at the beginning of 2020 my screen stops working completely, after having this stage light effect. I was able to find a monitor to use, but it was from 2005 or something... I liked the retro look, but when I tried to set this gear up for work.. it wasn’t possible.

I paid money for tools. And when I needed those tools the most, they failed to work due to the designers design flaws. When I ask the designer who I gave my money to, they are ignoring me. This has been saddening and maddening. And now I’m here writing like a silly person on the internet. I don’t know what to do.
