How do I remove songs from icloud and not remove it from iTunes?

Once I've added a song to my iCloud Music Library, how do I reverse that so it is only stored locally and not in iCloud? So far the things I've tried have resulted in the file being removed from my local iTunes as well. Then I have to go get it out of the trash and add it back to my collection. What I'd like to do is simply have iCloud forget about the track and leave my collection alone.

Are you using Apple Music or iTunes Match? The point of iCloud Music Library is to let content that you've added to your library become available to any other computer or device connected to your account. See About iCloud Music Library icons and status - Apple Support. You can potentially remove an item from your iCloud Library using a second cloud only library or a device, at which point the item should show as Removed in the primary copy of the library and will be removed from any device or iTunes library where it wasn't downloaded.

To answer your question, I'am using Apple Music. Based on your "You can potentially ...." remark, I fired up itunes on my phone, found the track, and then found the option to remove the download or remove it from my library.

When I removed it from my library, on my phone, the cloud icon returned on my desktop machine. Wow, that's a workaround. Why not just right click and "Remove from iCloud Music Library"? Whatever.

Thanks for the help! Wish I'd found this thread when I was searching for a solution Oh wait, it didn't exist yet. =)
