Error after having hard drive replaced.

Hi there,

I have a late 2012 27' iMac that recently had the hard drive replaced. The man who did it didn't fit the screen correctly so I had to take it back. The screen is now on correctly, but I am now having an issue whereby whenever I sleep or shut down my iMac, it actually restarts itself. The problem report is copied below and states an error with system sleep wake in EFI.

Thanks

Yeah that doesn't really help me. I'm swapping out a hard drive -- not performing open heart surgery...but appreciate the reply.

Anyways I found a fix.

To OP / anyone else that runs into this issue: Run the following command in terminal and you should be good to go.

sudo pmset -a standby 0

Hi Mateen,

Interestingly we sent ours off again to a different place at the expense of the first repairer and it needed a new logic board, CPU and GPU. Evidently one fried the next but it works perfectly now. Not sure whether your issue is the same one or if it just has similar symptoms, but it could be expensive to repair if it ends up in the same situation ours was in.

The error is in the firmware. Maybe it needs a firmware upgrade. Check with the tech who did the install. Tell him to problem you're having and if they are reputable they should be able to help.

FWIW; I gave up on the Sleep function years ago. Ever since the inception of OS X there have been Sleep related issues. And even more lately. I just use Display Sleep and keep it set for 15 minutes so I'm not burning the screen. That way your Mac uses very little power over Sleep and is ready to use at the touch of a key without any grogginess. UNIX based systems were made to be always on and they’ve been running busy servers 24/7 for decades.

Same response, it would be a good idea to take the computer to your local independent Apple Authorized Service Provider (AASP) to have to computer setup correctly. Sometimes when users attempt to save money by taking a do-it-yourself approach or having a friend or someone that simply is not adequately trained it ends up costing more. At this point, take it to a professional that is an AASP and they will have the right tools and knowledge to help you out. You can begin locating one in your area by Googling "Find an Apple Authorized Service Provider".
