Safari cannot connect to google only

Since about two days ago my Safari can no longer connect to google domain. There is no specific error, it just says that "server unexpectedly dropped the connection" and that "sometimes occurs when the server is busy".

I did a bit of troubleshooting. Other symptoms, which may help in diagnosis:

  • It happens only with google.com and all subdomains, other sites work fine
  • It happens only on Safari - Firefox has no issues opening it under the same user
  • I cleaned all data in Safari preferences - no changes
  • I looked through system certificates but didn't find anything suspicious
  • If I create a new user - Safari works again

Will appreciate any troubleshooting ideas or tips for how to fix it. Hopefully I don't hear back that reinstall is the only option, as I want to avoid it. This must be something simple, likely with permissions or certificates or whatnot.

  1. Try again at a different time.
  2. The website server may be busy, or the website may be unavailable temporarily.
  3. Contact your network administrator for help.
  4. If you connect to the Internet using a corporate or enterprise network, the network may have a firewall that prevents you from opening the web page , read the article .

You had created a new admin account in the same users and groups or created a new test user account ? clarify .

@macjack - I looked at those sites and tried everything before posting.

@tygb - I created a completely new user account and it had no issues.

However, thank you for that list. I went through it and now I feel stupid... The problem was that I somehow accidentally added a Little Snitch rule to block Safari access to Google. Likely happened yesterday - didn't even think about checking firewall, because I could not imagine I could have done something as stupid. Anyway, thanks...
