IPHONE XS Max - its water resistance

We purchased IPHONE XS Max taking into account its water resistance DECLARED on the OFFICIAL web site of Apple. We made 3 videos UNDER water for 30 sec duration and after that the cell started to switch off and reload every 3 min. In the tech characteristics on the website it IS water resistant. So if the cell stops operating correctly after contact with water, shall it be repaired or changed for a new device with NO FEE? Apple declares water resistance but when the water gets in the device -it is out of any guarantee and we need to pay for the repair...? How can this be?

Water-resistance does not mean water-proof, no matter what rating. Also Apple is not covering any water damage, not even with AppleCare+. https://support.apple.com/iphone/repair/service/pricing

For the US the repair / replacement cost for the Xs Max is 599 $ - per phone. With AppleCare+ the repair / replacement cost drops to 99 $ - again per phone.

Bottom line? Water resistance does not equal waterproof. iPhone 7 and later models are rated at IP67, with the XS & XS Max, rated at IP68. Regardless if any form of liquid "triggers" the liquid contact indicators, then it will not be covered under the one year Apple warranty. Only if you purchased the extended AppleCare+ plan, would it potentially be covered (for a lower repair cost) as one of the two accidental incidents.
