HP ~Envy 4500 error 9923 during scanning

Hi

From apple menu I took

System Preferences

Pinters and Scanners

Hit the + sign and from the drop down menu re-added the HP Envy Printer drivers and updates.

The drop down box Under the printer Icon was originally set to AirPrint.

Hope that makes sense? I'm an iMac convert so a NEWBIE.

Cheers

Hello, Big_Juan.

Thank you for using Apple Support Communities!

Try powering your router off for at least 30 seconds before powering back on, then follow these steps again: Solve scanning problems on Mac - Apple Support

If that doesn't resolve the issue, go to System Preferences > Network > Advanced > DHCP/IP to see if IPv6 is set to "Automatically."

Let us know if this helps! Take care.

No, everything is working fine.

I replaced my home router and that was when things went pair shaped.

Think it's worth keeping in mind that during the driver re-install, driver updates were applied at the same time.

Some printers run Universal Pug and Play, and that could impact things too, as it tries to automatically connect up over WiFi.

Universal Pug n Play could also be a security risk, in my humble opinion. You have to know how to kick UPnP off on the router and printer.

In my case, I think the driver install was the fix, tried IPv6 on and I think I got the button sequence correct on the router for UPnP, it was only when I re-installed the drivers and the updates that the MFD started to print and scan.

I had the same problem with my newly purchased Canon printer/scanner, and it was resolved yesterday by Canon tech support. First of all, the IPv6 was already set to automatically on my iMac in System Preferences/Network. The problem is indeed with IPv6, but it had to be disabled on the printer, not on the Mac. With the Canon TS3120, tech support simply had me press the “tools” button (the one showing a wrench and screwdriver) on the printer, and keeping pressing it until the number 16 showed on the LCD screen. Then press the “Black” button once. IPv6 was disabled in that simple procedure. Restart the Mac, and all should be good to go. It will be different steps on your printer, but get an HP tech support person to tell you how to disable IPv6 on the printer.

Yes, I think IPv6 could be the cause of many issues from online banking type apps to things like home printers.

My understanding is that IPv6 is on by default on Microsoft Operating Systems, therefore some on- line websites, locally installable applications (like printer apps) could all be designed for IPv6 to be on by default.

IPv6 - major subject in it's own right. I'll be playing with that the next time I get a weird www or LAN issue.
