How do I get my yahoo email to continue its updates - the message I get at the bottom of the screen is "account error - cannot get mail. Connection to server failed."
That's it - no options to correct the situation. I can connect on my macbook just fine.

Are you using Apple Mail app or Yahoo app?
If the former, check your account in Settings>Account&Password>Your Account>SMTP parameters... then, tap on Advanced, and check the IMAP parameters there.
If the latter, contact Yahoo support team.
