Photos Crashing Crashed Thread 1 Dispatch queue: Summary update queue

Extremely maddening. Photos keeps crashing after 5-10 seconds. Running OS Mojave 10.14.5. Have repaired library many times, tried to remove files from library etc. to no avail. Sometimes these "fixes" allow the app to work for a few hours, or a day or two, then right back to crashville.

I have approximately 104,000 photos so selectively placing into a new library would really, really suck. Photos has become so unreliable that I may have to leave it. Arghhh, I never had this crap in iPhoto.

Looking for the community's magic here. Anyone have any ideas? I have pasted the summary and Crashed Thread info below if that helps...

Much appreciated!

As a test launch Photos with the Option key held down and create a new, test library. Import some photos and test to see if the same problem persists. Does it? (This tells us if the problem is limited to your current library or is more wide spread).

If the problem persists then log into another user account on your Mac and repeat the test above. This will tell us if the problem is limited to your user account or is system wide.

Lastly, if still persists, boot into Safe Mode and test your library from there.

NOTE: Safe Mode boot can take up to 10 minutes as it's doing some system cache cleaning, volume verifying and directory repairing.

This will tell us if there's some 3rd party software that many be contribution to the problem.

Hi OT,

First of all, thanks a lot for your response, and my apologies for the belated response. So, here's my update. I tried a variety of things right after your post... some highlights

  • created new library and imported 2000 photos... Worked fine. But I did not work with this over days...
  • copied my library to an external drive and ran disk utility. No errors.
  • opened the library from the external drive in Photos, and tried to repair the library on the external drive, which failed repeatedly. This does not happen when I try to repair it on my internal drive...
  • exported my photos (14 hrs!) to an external drive (2000+ errors which I still need to sort through).
  • Launched my original library on my internal drive, and it has been working fine ever since... Not sure why, but we shall see how long that lasts.

Any ideas on what the error? "Crashed Thread: 1 Dispatch queue: Summary update queue" When it does crash, it is always that error. Only the thread number changes. I am hoping that we can zone in on what the root cause may be. I am sure this will start crashing again at some point.

Welcome to my twilight zone...

Be sure to make a backup of that library and keep it up to date since it's working as it should,

Don't know what the error message means. There are some that might and I'll see if I can get one to drop in to help.
