FaceTime Effects

I amended my post, see above. To use the full complement of FaceTime Effects, the True Depth camera is needed.

iPad mini 4 does not meet the minimum requirements to use FaceTime Effects. If other parties of your FaceTime call has a newer device they can use FaceTime Effects and they will appear on your screen.

Unless something has changed, all iPads with at least an A10 CPU can use FaceTime Effects. I have an iPad Pro 2017 which does not have a True Depth Camera and I have the option to use FaceTime Effects. Granted they are not as accurate as if I had a True Depth Camera but they still work.

If you really want FaceTime Effects, you need an iPad with Face ID, and that currently only includes iPad Pro Models released in 2018.

The iPad Mini 5th generation and iPad 6th generation and iPad Air 3, can use some filters to change your appearance.
