Hi CursorandTrackpad,

Thanks for coming to Apple Support Communities for help with your MacBook Air trackpad. It sounds like your cursor is erratic when you are using the trackpad to move it around the screen.

Have you restarted the Mac since this began?

Have you tried changing the tracking speed in System Preferences > Trackpad to see if that made any difference?

This article has some additional steps to try out as well: If your pointer is jumpy when you use a trackpad, Magic Trackpad, or Magic Mouse

You can also start isolating the issue by restarting into safe mode to see it occurs: Use safe mode to isolate issues with your Mac. If it doesn't occur in safe mode, reboot normally and test again.

You can also see if the issue occurs in a new user account. This would indicate the issue is system-wide or just specific to your regular user account. Here is how: How to test an issue in another user account on your Mac.

If it does occur in a new test user account, the likelihood of the issue being hardware related increases. You could also test in Recovery to confirm that: About macOS Recovery.

Have a fantastic day!
