Itunes does not recognize iphone

After restart of both devices. Iphone (ios 12.3.1) connect to MacBook (os 10.14.5) but not to Itunes for back up

iPhone not visible in iTunes When I plug my iPhone into my Mac using the USB cable iTunes does not see the iPhone. I therefore cannot synch music or do back-ups. Windows 10 pc running iTunes, all up to date versions, iTunes doesn't see or recognize iPhone! My windows 10 pc running iTunes doesn't recognize the my iPhone in iTunes. "This PC" sees the iPhone and allows me to download photos to PC ( somewhat cumbersome). I want to back up my iphone to I Tunes. Device sync test fails. The phone needs to be unlocked.

Connect the phone and then open iTunes.

In the upper left you'll see a small phone icon. Click it.

Sounds like the cable may have failed.
