AppleTV will not stream audio to HomePod

Reset both devices, ensured HomePod and AppleTV on same WiFi network, all devices are updated to latest software as of when this post has been posted. I watch Amazon Prime video through the App on my AppleTV 4k.

Some days the option to have audio from AppleTV forwarded to HomePod is available, and some days not. Very finicky, and searching on the internet I found that I am not the only one with this issue.

Anyone find a fix? According to searches on the internet, this is a common on-going issue for at least 180 days, with no fix to be found.

Check your AirPlay settings

If you can’t AirPlay to an Apple TV or HomePod,* check the AirPlay settings for that device.

On Apple TV, you might have restricted who can AirPlay.
On HomePod,* you might have restricted speaker access.
For AirPlay 2, you might need to invite others to control your home so they can AirPlay to your devices.

rebooting the wifi and restarting Apple TV or unplugging it can help as well.

Or remove the wifi network (“Forget”) from Apple TV and add it back after the above mentioned restarts

Do you have a dual band Wi-Fi router? You may find things are more reliable if you disable the 5GHz radio. It may also help to assign fixed IP addresses to your hardware.

Are the HomePods not listed as an Audio option when you swipe down on the remote’s touchpad during video playback?
